Nestled on a beautiful tropical island in the remote Nomuka island group of Ha’apai is our statement of sustainable living practices and Whale discoveries HQ. From here we are able to explore areas that are not easily explored by tourists. Lolofutu will only appeal to the adventurer travellor who wishes to get off the beaten track!
We are offgrid and 100% solar, have composting toilet systems and rainwater collection only. We grow as much produce as possible in this rich volcanic soil and the stands of mango trees around the property are impressive. No bars , no restaurants and no sealed roads.
Being situated on a remote island holds no shortage of adventure, and even getting here is part of that! You can only reach us by boat, either with a combination trip on board our catamaran, Wildlife or with the local Ferry. We are a 6 hour ferry ride from the main island of Tongatapu and travelling with a flexible plan is a must.
Once you are here you will be accommodated in full sized 2 room tents with king size beds, private decking and beach access. The Beach Barn itself is a large living area where you will be provided with 3 delicious, healthy meals per day, it is complete with areas to relax and socialise.
Activities here are endless and we offer boat trips for you to explore the surrounding reefs and islands, horse riding, trail walks, village visits and of course in the whale watch season we have daily whale swim trips going on “Tropic Bird”. Although the search ground is smaller than other parts of Tonga we do not encounter any other operators in this area, providing intimate and exclusive encounters with these beautiful creatures.
For free divers and snorkelers straight off the beach in front of the beach barn is a magical formation of coral caves and swim throughs that will have you entertained for hours each day. We also boast a classic area for kite surfing, stand up paddle boarding, and a large deck area for yoga groups. With a sense of adventure the possibilities are endless.
